Cocktails at the NYE prohibition party Holborn

I'm gonna party like it's 1999...or the 1920's as I was off to the Bloomsbury Ballroom again but this time at a prohibition party.  I was a big fan of the dark circus party thrown by Bourne & Hollingsworth (review here) and they were throwing lots of parties on new year's eve, one of them being a prohibition party.

The Baz Luhrmann remake of "The Great Gatsby" is too long and the chemistry between Leo and Carey is akin to the chemistry I have towards my flannel but that party scene...what a scene.  I literally dream of my life being like this every moment of the day so the prohibition party seemed like the perfect one to see the new year in.

Unfortunately I don't think Bourne & Hollingsworth have millions like Jay Gatsby but it was a good party.  Silent cinema, live band, casino and burlesque dancing.  Everyone made such an effort (except the one girl in jeans and a tshirt.  I suspect the only reason why she was allowed in was because she was an awesome dancer. Her and her boyfriend were tearing up the dance floor. Not in a "You got served" way but an awesome Charleston, toe tapping way.    

The Gatsby I guess was inspired by the copious amount of fizz Mr Gatsby would have indeed have at his remarkable parties (*sigh*).      

The Southside Royale.  Royale?  That sounds familiar.  Oh wait.  Uh oh, it's the same drink as the Circus Royale that I had at the dark circus party.  The one that led to my swift and disgraceful downfall.  Just as lovely and refreshing as I remember.  Took all my willpower just to stick to the one...and not four.

The Mary Pickford should probably have been called the Carmen Miranda.  With the rum and pineapple, it probably wasn't quite appropriate to have it in a tea cup but I asked and the lovely bartender conceeded.  Teehee.  Not a cocktail umbrella in sight.

So now at least I've branched out and had more than just one different kind of Bourne & Hollingsworth cocktail.  However there's still a long list and I intend to try more at their next party and party like it's 1940.  Watch this space.
