Cocktails at the Gilbert Scott

Cocktails at the Gilbert Scott

I personally don't get the whole "getting hysterical when you turn 30" thing.  Maybe because I still look like I pass for 25 I can afford to sound glib but seriously! now that I'm 30, I have more money and I have better taste than when I was 16 (I don't mean to sound smug; it's from a low base of low taste at 16 years old).  What is there to wail about?  If we were turning 16, we would not have been going to The Gilbert Scott for drinks.
On the eve of my best friend turning 30 (I try to sound so mature in the beginning which pretty much backfired the second I mentioned having a best friend), I had organised a day of all sorts of grown up delights.  As this is supposed to be a post about the Gilbert Scott, I'll keep an overview of my itinerary brief but I want to share it with you because I think I aced it.

The day started with a 7:30am meet up at the Duck & Waffle (on a Friday which we had all taken a day off so I really should have thought this through a little better) for breakfast whilst seeing one of the most incredible sunrises over London ever.  Then off to North London for a make up masterclass (and secret selfie session) and champagne afternoon tea at the Savoy.  Glorious.

However for reasons not exciting enough to mention, we ended up around Kings Cross and had a bit of time before our booking at the Savoy so decided at the last minute to head into The Gilbert Scott for a quick cocktail.  Win win for one of the girls who had it on her list and also for me who wants to go to as many cocktail bars on this map I have (I'm currently achieved 19 out of 60.  Shocking)...oh yeah and also for the birthday girl who this whole day was about.

The Gilbert Scott is utterly beautiful.  Just utterly beautiful.  As we were due to be at the Savoy we looked respectable enough to be there.  It's the place where good news are shared, great days are celebrated, proposals should be made and women should be wooed (I think the old-ness of the building makes me think it's acceptable for old words to be used).  I have a lot of love for old fashioned, well preserved places.

So this gorgeous little lady is a rhubarb and ginger sour.  I could either have it with Tapatio tequila or Belvedere Vodka.  Given that it was 2pm, I thought I should demonstrate some decorum and asked for Vodka.  It also had Aperol, pink grapefruit juice, rhubarb, ginger and lemon.

The Gilbert Scott has both a beautiful venue and a fantastic cocktail menu.  Going on a Friday afternoon made us feel slightly reckless and decadent.  Now unless you were playing hooky you definitely can't do that at 16.
