Bourne & Hollingsworth Fitzrovia Cocktail Bar Review
Oh my goodness, I can't believe I haven't posted anything up since November. However, I want to make you feel reassured you that I have been drinking, it's just that it's unfortunately been on dates which means no big camera. I've a lot to learn about boys but I'm pretty sure not speaking to them for the first 10 minutes as I orchestrate a mini photo shoot is not an ideal thing to do...although they would be a rather useful photographer's assistant.
So without photographic evidence I can tell you that the Southsider Cocktail Club in Clapham, the London Cocktail Club in Fitzrovia, Opium Cocktail & Dim Sum Parlour in Chinatown (oh wait I have been there before hence suggesting going there on a date), Dirty Martini in Covent Garden, Jewel in Covent Garden and Boopshi's in Fitzrovia are delightful cocktail bars. I can also tell you that I've frequented more branches of All Bar One than I care to.
Anyway no one wants to know about my dating jaunts...
However my most recent trip to Bourne & Hollingsworth was a date with my bestie; my "wife" and co founded of PCC. We were a little shit with organising payday cocktail club towards the end of last year and thought we'd have a regroup as we develop our strategy for 2015 (I think we concluded: organise more PCC).
I've been a little obsessed with Bourne & Hollingsworth having had their cocktails at numerous Dark Circus Parties so I was a little giddy about the prospect of finally going to their home.
The decor is crazy old granny who likes her booze (kind of like the one in the Aldi advert). Chintzy wallpaper and old fashioned feel (I'm going to avoid using the over-used word vintage). You think you should be ordering tea instead of cocktails and I should be wearing tweed and maybe the fur of some poor creature. The menu also opens like a Christmas present revealing all its little treats.
I had a Knickerbocker because it's January after all and we're all a health kick. This has orange liqueur, raspberry syrup and lemon juice...as well as...ahem...rum.
This was a Storm in a mug except actually it was in a freakin cute little jar. Dark rum, Sailor Jerry's spiced rum, raspberries, lime juice, spiced breakfast tea and ginger beer. Yum yum yum.
So pleased I finally got to to go Bourne & Hollingsworth. Not ideal we went on a Monday night (raging alcoholics) where it was a little quieter but because of it's tea room feel it was nice to just tuck ourselves away in the corner. Also Monday night drinking means I can't have many and there were so many I liked the look of. Definitely want to check out their restaurant in Clerkenwell. Judging by the photos that I've seen, the interior looks like Laura Ashley on safari. Amazing.
